It's warm in Denver (94 degrees F or so for the last few days), but it was more than 20 degrees hotter in Las Vegas yesterday, which
tied the record [116 degrees] for July 5, last reached in 1985. The city has hit the 116-degree mark 11 times since 1940. Las Vegas also tied the 1981 record for the warmest-ever low temperature for the date: 86 degrees. Sin City's all-time high? A brutal 117 degrees, set in 2005 and 1942.
A moment of silence, please, for the poor 1942-edition Las Veggians (as residents of that city are popularly known) who survived 116 degrees ("it's a dry heat")--without air conditioning.

Oh, I already said that.

Las Vegas —A man on a walkway over the New York-New York casino floor opened fire on the gamblers below early Friday, wounding three people before he was tackled by a group of off-duty police officers and military personnel, police said.
